Mane Lodge

Mane Lodge Overview

Wandjina is sire of 3 Mane Lodge yearlings (pic: Mark Gatt)

Mane Lodge is well named. It's stood as one of the most professional and respected agistment facilities in the Central Capital Region of NSW for over three decades. Principal Neil Osborne has seen more breeding fashion trends than Calvin Klein catwalks and has the experience to make discerning bloodstock decisions. This is the reason he continues to produce high quality yearlings and weanlings across his annual boutique drafts. Cases in point include Lone Eagle and Bugatty.

So you can inspect the Mane Lodge Magic Millions draft with optimism knowing that amongst the 5 colts and 2 fillies on offer there is almost certainly some racetrack excitement to be had.

Lot 167 is the opener and what a way to start! A gorgeous filly by freakishly prolific stallion I Am Invincible from Spirit Mania, herself a full-sister to explosive, triple stakes-winning filly Alpha Miss. With 4 wins from 1000m-1100m Alpha Miss was a major player across the host of early 2YO Golden Slipper lead-up races with a win in the Gimcrack and placings in the Furious, Reisling and Tea Rose. Add the potency of I Am Invincible and you have a filly that has every chance of lining up for the rich 2YO race on the Gold Coast a year later.

The second filly in the draft (Lot 961) should also be precocious. She's by Starspangledbanner's sire Choisir from Falbrav mare Falqueen. This is a mare with a perfect strike rate. 5 runners. 5 winners. Bombproof. And it's a classy family. Falqueen herself is a half-sister to Listed Scone Cup winner Obvious Choice and the clan traces to Gr1 Hollywood Park Shoemaker Mile winner Irish Prize and Champion Turf Filly and triple Gr1 winner Hatoof.

Wandjina is a young stallion with obvious potential. With his oldest only 2YOs and just starting to hit the racetrack he already has a black type performer on his resume with Grand Scholar an eye-catching 3rd in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial. By speed producing mecca Snitzel out of a Last Tycoon mare, Wandjina showed dazzling speed at 2, took out the Gr1 Australian Guineas at 3 and was described by Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse as "the fastest two-year-old in [her] stable" and "the best three-year-old in the country."

Mane Lodge is equally enthusiastic about Wandjina and has 3 of his colts at the Magic Millions.

Lot 408 is the first. He's from well-named Dracula mare Bloodline, a half-sister to Listed Blue Diamond Prelude runner-up Grand Britannia. And she's another with a faultless record with 6 runners for 6 winners to date. Best of these (so far) is the dual Gr1 winner Platelet, the tenacious Strategic filly who won from 955m to 1200m.

Lot 634 is sure to spend more time out of his box than in it. He's the half-brother to stakes placed Zoffany colt Lone Eagle. An imposing yearling, he comes from a family dotted in class. 3rd dam Loving Claim was a Gr1 Prix Marcel Boussac winner in France and one of her daughters produced the talented stakes winner and Gr1 runner-up Soft Sand. A must inspection!

The final Wandjina is Lot 1001. He's another from the Platelet family and the first foal of twice-winning daughter Intravenous. Particularly interesting about this pedigree from an ancestral perspective is the sex balanced cross of breed shaping Danehill at the top and bottom (4 x 4).

The penultimate lot is 934, the colt by Gr1 Coolmore winner Flying Artie's sire Artie Schiller from Change Channels. This her first foal and much is expected of her. Why? She's a full-sister to triple Gr1-winner Luckygray. This is a nice pedigree with speed, tracing to Gr2 Todman Slipper Trial winner Diego Garcia.

Lot 1082 rounds out this exciting draft. By Gr1 producing sire Magnus, this colt is from Chosir mare Selecting, a half-sister to Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Pantani as well as Gr1 Stradbroke winner St. Basil. Importantly, this is a mating which works with full-brother Maximus Magnus already a winner.
