At Te Aroha in New Zealand, Widden Stud's Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning stallion Stratum (Redoutes Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) celebrated an elite race success when 5YO Australian-bred mare Miss Wilson (Stratum-Cierzo, by Centaine) sent her value soaring when claiming her maiden top-flight victory in the $200,000 Gr1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1600m) for fillies & mares, defeating The Auld Floozie & Nicoletta. This was the third stakes victory for Miss Wilson who is a half-sister to 5-time Gr1 winner and sire Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park). She improved her record to 7 wins (including the Gr3 Spring Sprint & Gr3 Cuddle Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr2 Tauranga Stakes) from 25 starts for $320,918 in earnings. Just like former New Zealand Horse of the Year Jimmy Choux, Miss Wilson was bred and raced by Richard and Liz Wood whose familiar colours she carried to victory on Saturday. "It's great for Richard and Liz. They have been big supporters of the stable," trainer John Bary told NZ Racing Desk.
