At Caulfield in Melbourne, Woodside Park's Gr2-winning stallion Written Tycoon (Iglesias-Party Miss, by Kenmare) celebrated an elite race success when 2YO Australian-bred colt Written By (Written Tycoon-Yau Chin, by Tobougg) overcame a wide draw and run to demolish his rivals with an emphatic win in the $1.5 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, defeating Enbihaar & Oohood. Written By, whose female line traces to No Finer, the dam of multiple stakes winners including Gr1 Australian Guineas winner and outstanding Waikato Stud sire Pins, extended his unbeaten record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for colts & geldings) from 3 starts for $1,133,000 in earnings. Bred by Hall of Fame trainer Neville Begg, Written By was retained to race after he was passed in shy of his reserve at the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. He races in the familiar Begg family colours of black, white and red that were carried to Gr1 glory by former stable stars Bonanova and Monopolize. Trainer Grahame Begg said Written By had always shown himself to be a special colt. "He's a pretty special sort of horse. We've known that for a while, but that was just super," Begg told racing.com. "I just knew after his first-up run that he'd improve in leaps and bounds. He's had the best couple of weeks since the prelude and his work on Monday had to be seen to be believed. I knew he was spot on." Written By is now on the fourth line of betting at $8 for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 24 March.
