At Caulfield in Melbourne, Arrowfield Stud's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated an elite race success when 4YO Australian-bred entire Russian Revolution (Snitzel-Ballet d'Amour, by Stravinsky) overcame a wide run on the speed to score a typically brave win in the $500,000 Gr1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) for 3YO+, defeating Snitty Kitty & Hellbent. Russian Revolution improved his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Galaxy, Gr2 McEwen Stakes, Gr2 Roman Consul Stakes & Gr3 Vain Stakes) from 11 starts for $1,284,225 in earnings. Russian Revolution races in the red and yellow star silks of the China Horse Club which secured him for $320,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Vinery Stud. From the winning Stravinsky mare Ballet d'Amour, Russian Revolution is a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Fanfreluche, ancestress of former champion Australian sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur, and Coolmore stallion Holy Roman Emperor. Co-trainer Paul Snowden praised Russian Revolution's owners Newgate Farm and China Horse Club for giving the valuable entire another campaign instead of retiring him to stud. "They could've probably put him to stud but they've left us alone and allowed us to bring him back," Paul Snowden said. "Now he's a two-time Group 1 winning son of Snitzel and there aren't too many of those around." Snowden said next month's Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley was one of the options for Russian Revolution.
