At Riccarton in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate-winning champion sire Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) celebrated an elite race success when 3YO colt Embellish (Savabeel-Bling, by O'Reilly) showed a good turn of foot to draw clear for a stylish win in the $500,000 Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, defeating stable-mate Age Of Fire and Ever Loyal. Purchased by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis for $775,000 at the 2016 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Waikato Stud, Embellish is out of the unraced mare Bling and is a full-brother to Gr1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes winner Diademe. Embellish's Classic victory not only advanced his record to 3 wins and 1 placing from 4 starts for NZ$316,060 in earnings, but also assured his future at stud once he retires. "He's a very valuable colt and we would love to think that he will be standing at stud in the future," Ellis told NZ Racing Desk.
