At Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Coolmore's deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) celebrated an elite race success when 3YO Australian-bred filly Youngstar (High Chaparral-Starspangled, by Danehill) overcame a wide run and showed great spirit to fight back and win the $500,000 Gr1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) for 3YO fillies, defeating stable-mate Another Dollar & Sheezdashing. Trainer Chris Waller praised Youngstar's fighting qualities after she endured a tough run in the race. "She's gone from a perfect spot one off the fence then shunted three and four wide," he told Sky Racing. "They took off very early and she needed all of her qualities to come back on the line." Waller said Youngstar may now bid for dual Classic honours in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) at Doomben on 9 June. "It's a good idea having it two weeks apart. One week for fillies is a bit hard. We weren't tempted to back Winx up but it's something to think about," he said. Youngstar, who hails from the family of English, Irish & Yorkshire Oaks heroine User Friendly, improved her record to 4 wins (including the Gr2 Magic Millions The Roses) and 1 placing from 7 starts for $478,562 in earnings. She was purchased by Anton Koolman Bloodstock for $200,000 at the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Young-based nursery Bowness Stud.
