At Flemington racecourse in Melbourne, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) celebrated an elite race success when 5YO bay gelding Humidor (Teofilo-Zalika, by Zabeel) finished powerfully to dominant a high class field in the $750,000 Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, defeating Hartnell & Black Heart Bart. In claiming his second Group One triumph, the New Zealand-bred Humidor improved his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 Australian Cup & Gr3 Manawatu Classic) & 7 placings (including the the Gr1 Livermol Classic, Gr2 TS Carlyon Cup & Gr2 Peter Young Stakes) from 18 starts for $1,874,344 in earnings. Humidor's 3rd dam is Champion Irish 2YO and Champion European 3YO Habibti, a half-sister to legendary blue hen Eight Carat. Trainer Darren Weir confirmed Humidor's primary target is the $3.15 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield racecourse on 21 October. "He's always shown great promise and that was unbelievable really. It's just always been a matter of getting his manners right and I think we're winning the battle," trainer Darren Weir told racing.com. "The Caulfield Cup has been the plan with him all along and that's where we'll head."
