At Ascot in Perth, West Australia, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit-Cannarelle, by Canny Lad) celebrated an elite race success when 5YO Australian-bred mare Viddora (I Am Invincible-Snow Flight, by Colombia) easily accounted for her rivals with an explosive win in the $1 million Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+, defeating Fuhryk & Durendal. Viddora improved her record to 7 wins (including the Gr3 RN Irwin Stakes & Listed Lightning Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr1 Moir Stakes, Gr1 Ubet Classic, Listed SAJC Manihi Classic & Listed BRC Falvelon Handicap) from 23 starts for $1,473,680 in earnings. Purchased by her trainer Lloyd Kennewell for $40,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Riva Ridge Stud, Viddora is a direct descendant of the influential broodmare Derna (FR), meaning she hails from the same female family as multiple champion New Zealand sire Zabeel, Australian Guineas winner Baryshnikov, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winning mother and son Detroit and Carnegie. "It's absolutely terrific," said Kennewell, who was celebrating his first Group 1 success as a trainer. "It means a bit, I was actually born in Perth before moving to Adelaide when I was young." He added: "That was bloody sensational. It was the best feeling - at the 200 metres it was all over." Kennewell said Viddora would now almost certainly head to the Gold Coast to run in the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m) on 13 January.
