At Flemington in Melbourne, Coolmore's former Gr1-winning Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) celebrated an elite race success when blue blooded 3YO filly Shoals (Fastnet Rock-The Broken Shore, by Hussonet) sent her value skyrocketing when scoring a tough win over her older rivals in the $500,000 Gr1 Myer Classic (1600m) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, defeating Eckstein & Dixie Blossoms. Shoals improved her record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 ATC Percy Sykes Stakes, Gr3 TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes & Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Thousand Guineas) from 7 starts for $1,067,150 in earnings. "That was very satisfying. We were always going to go forward and take any bad luck out of play and use the weight advantage," trainer Anthony Freedman said. "She's a pretty tough filly, not very big but incredibly tough, trouble-free and straightforward." Bred by John Messara's Arrowfield Stud, who race her in partnership with Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing, Shoals is by Fastnet Rock out of the valuable mare The Broken Shore (Hussonet), a daughter of outstanding producer Shantha's Choice. A $1.9 million purchase by Munz at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale from the Teeley Assets Dispersal, The Broken Shore is a half-sister to Arrowfield's multiple champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, Gr1 winners Platinum Scissors & Manhattan Rain, Gr3 winner Sliding Cube and stakes winner Echoes of Heaven, and a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Best In Show. This is arguably the most sought after bloodline in the world, with other esteemed members including Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winning sire Hurricane Sky, Umatilla, Xaar, Al Maher, Sex Appeal (dam of stallion heavyweights Try My Best & El Gran Senor), Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, and her daughter Better Than Honour, who fetched a world-record price of US$14 million for a broodmare in 2008 and is the dam of US classic winners Rags To Riches & Jazil.
