At Sha Tin racecourse in Hong Kong, champion 2YO colt & 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) celebrated an elite race success when 5YO German-bred gelding Pakistan Star (Shamardal-Nina Celebre, by Peintre Celebre) finally lived up to his potential when racing away for a brilliant 3 length win in the HK$24 million Gr1 QEII Cup (2000m), defeating Gold Mount & Eagle Way. The enigmatic but richly talented Pakistan Star improved his record to 4 wins and 5 placings (including the Gr1 QEII Cup & Hong Kong Derby) from 15 starts for HK$29,956,200 in earnings. Trainer Tony Cruz was delighted with the win. "Today, he’s shown the public his true ability," trainer Tony Cruz said. "Last year he could have won it too, if the pace had been on. There have been so many complications along the way but this horse has proven he’s a Group 1 horse."
