Sledmere Stud begins another yearling sales series on the Gold Coast having established itself amongst the leading thoroughbred vendors in the country. A sustained sequence of racetrack success has seen the Scone outfit emerge as one of the most consistent sources of top-class gallopers in the domestic ranks, and especially so in the divisions that the domestic buying bench places greatest emphasis upon — the early-comer that trains on to become a high-class 3-year-old and leading open age performer. Look no further than their current star graduates, Arkansaw Kid and Evaporate (NZ). The former hit the ground running with victory in the $502,000 Inglis 2YO at Moonee Valley on debut a few seasons ago and hasn't missed a beat since. A dual Group 2 VRC Bobbie Lewis Quality winner and Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes placegetter earlier still in the piece, the now 5-year-old recently took his career earnings to over $2 million during another highly productive spring campaign. And very much the same can be said of Evaporate (NZ). Sold as a Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling on behalf of the farm's great Kiwi associates Little Avondale, the distinguished 4-year-old is also now a multiple Group winner universally recognised as a Group 1 talent boasting earnings climbing rapidly towards $3 million. Both Arkansaw Kid and Evaporate (NZ) have picked up the baton from fellow Sledmere Stud Group 1 graduates and million-plus dollar earners Veight, Little Brose and Ozzmosis, as well as the likes of Icebath (NZ), Invincibella and Snapdancer before them, to place Sledmere Stud squarely in the very top-bracket of yearling vendors in Australia with even bigger and better drafts to offer in the months ahead.
