After two quality black type placed performances in her first two runs of her current campaign, Kim Waugh's talented 5YO mare Great News (Uncle Mo-Wonderful News, by Clang) heads into Friday's Gr3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle ready to produce the goods third up from her spell. With five wins and seven placed performances from her 12 career starts, the class of the mare has always been on show, evident by never finishing out of the money in all her starts and come Friday she has conditions to suit to earn her first black type win for connections, adding considerable residual value as a broodmare prospect. Outstanding when beaten less than a half-length margin by the Joe Pride-trained Fituese (Deep Field) in the Gr3 Toy Show (1100m) at Randwick, the Amarina Farm-foaled mare then did a lot of work at her next start, finishing three parts of a length third in the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes behind More Prophets (Smart Missile-Set To Skelter, by Reset) and Bring The Ransom (Sebring-Gold Epona, by Stratum), who she will once again meet in the Tibbie Stakes. Unbeaten at the track, it is no surprise to see Great News currently the race favourite ahead of More Prophets, and with Ashley Morgan on board from barrier nine, the mare should be able to travel forward and sit handy in the run.
