  • Eduardo a Big Fish in a Big Pond

    Thursday, 16th September 2021

One of the share market's most often-cited expressions is: buy on the rumour, sell on the fact. Racing is sometimes a little like that, where 'gunna' horses, based on their potential, end up with a shorter price than those that have 'been there, done that'. Monday's latest addition to The Everest field, Eduardo (Host-Blushing, by Fantastic Light) finds himself on the sixth line of betting at $13 the win and $4 the place. He's not a small fish in a big pond, he's a big fish, and he's spent most of his career swimming upstream to prove that. Notwithstanding his unplaced effort in last year's renewal of The Everest, Eduardo completed the 2020-21 season as the best-performed male runner in the Australian Black Type Premiership – no mean feat. A son of Hussonet's successful Chilean-bred sire-son Host, Eduardo's seasonal honours included victories in the Gr1 The Galaxy (1100m), Gr1 Domben 10,000 (1200m), Gr2 Missile Stakes (1100m) and Gr2 Challenge Stakes (1000m). He also placed in the Gr1 TJ Smith (1200m) and Gr2 The Shorts (1100m). Ergo, the Joe Pride-trained sprinter doesn't generally go around to make up the numbers and should be a force in this year's big Randwick sprint, no matter what the market suggests.
