  • Fituese Trials For Invitation In Sheraco

    Friday, 10th September 2021

John Thompson believes his smart mare Fituese (Deep Field-Cattalo, by Tiger Hill) can run out a strong 1200m in Saturday's Gr2 Sheraco Stakes, and will aim her at next month's inaugural The Invitation over 1400m, reports racingnsw.com.au. "She ran out a strong 1100m the other day and covered ground doing it," said the trainer. "As long as she gets on a somewhat dry surface she'll be right. I think she will get further myself." Fituese won the Gr3 Toy Show Handicap in her first run this season over 1100m and has won seven of her 14 starts. In the Toy Show, Fituese was ridden by Jean Van Overmeire, who replaced regular rider Rachel King after she fell earlier in the day. "We had a rider jumping on that'd never been on before and he got a three second rundown," he said. "I just told him what Rachel's plan was and he did a fantastic job, he rode her to the letter of what Rachel had planned to do. The horse was good enough to overcome the wide draw and wide run and win. All my horses improve with racing, that's a guarantee. She's just in great order. Mares seem to be in form or out of form and when they are in form they seem to hold it."
