  • Epsom Derby Winner Heads Direct to Arc

    Thursday, 9th September 2021

Star 3YO colt Adayar (Frankel-Anna Salai, by Dubawi) will head directly to the Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after a hind leg infection ruled him out of this Sunday's Prix Niel at Longchamp, reports racingpost.com. "Adayar missed a couple of days and, after discussions, we felt there was no need to press on to a trial [for the Arc]," said Godolphin's trainer Charlie Appleby about his dual Group 1 winner. "So, the decision was made to head straight to the Arc. He has resumed full training, and as a Derby (see below) and King George winner he fully deserves to be running in what's shaping up to be a vintage Arc." Adayar drifted from 7-2 to 9-2 after the news. Triple Oaks winner Snowfall (Deep Impact-Best in the World, by Galileo) heads the Arc betting at 9-4. Adayar has won three of his six starts and placed in two others, and is out of group winner Anna Salai, whose dam was a 2YO group winner and dam of three stakes winners. Adayar's stablemate Hurricane Lane (Frankel-Gale Force, by Shirocco) will run in this weekend's St Leger before a final Arc decision is made. "We're lucky to have two very good middle-distance horses, and if both are fit and well we'll run the pair of them in the Arc," said Appleby.
