  • Peters Takes Long View with Windstorm

    Tuesday, 20th July 2021

Choosing to exercise caution and restraint, prominent owner-breeder Bob Peters has elected to rule promising 4YO gelding Windstorm (Redoute’s Choice-Storm Alert, by Metal Storm) out of the Ascot carnival in Perth later this year, reports thewest.com.au. The stakes-winning son of Redoute’s Choice has 7 wins (including the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes at Caulfield) and 2 runners-up (including the Listed Tontotan at Flemington) from his 12 starts. Despite a disappointing run on a wet track in last year’s lucrative Golden Eagle (1500m) in Sydney, Windstorm’s return in Perth’s Roma Cup during May was keenly anticipated. Unfortunately, he was struck down by a virus just days before the event. Under the circumstances Peters doesn’t want the Grant and Alanna Williams-trained gelding rushed back in time for the Gr1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and Gr1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m), believing the lengthy time off will benefit Windstorm. “He’s still quite lightly-raced. He could be one for the Melbourne autumn next year.”
