  • Love's Rush Toward King George Glory

    Tuesday, 20th July 2021

Rockstar filly Love (Galileo-Pikaboo, by Pivotal) returned successfully after 10 months off the track in the Gr1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. Now, last year's 1000 Guineas, English Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks heroine steps up again when taking on the prestigious King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes on Saturday. According to racingtv.com, Love's trainer Aidan O'Brien said at the Curragh over the weekend that everything has worked out for the best since Ascot. "The plan at the moment is that we're looking at running Love in the King George," declared O'Brien. "Mogul (Galileo) and Broome (Australia) are also there [as options], but Love is the most likely to run." Amongst Love's likely heavyweight opposition are Godolphin's Charlie Appleby-trained Derby winner Adayar (Frankel), Irish Derby runner-up Lone Eagle (Galileo) and Coronation Cup victor Pyledriver (Harbour Watch). Against that calibre of opposition in the race first run in 1951, Love will definitely know she's in a race, but the corollary is so will they.
