Sunday’s Gr1 Prix Jean Prat (1400m) at Deauville was taken out by 3YO colt Law of Indices (Power-Sampers, by Exceed and Excel). Franking the form out of Royal Ascot’s Gr1 Commonwealth Cup where he finished behind Campanelle and Dragon Symbol – the result was decided in the Stewards’ Room – Gr2 Curragh Railway Stakes winner Law of Indices already boasted French Group 1 form having finished third in the Gr1 Jean-Luc Legardere (1400m) at Longchamp last October as a 2YO. Out of a mare by Darley’s reverse shuttler Exceed and Excel (Danehill), the valuable colt is by Oasis Dream’s sire-son Power (ex Frappe, by Inchinor) who shuttled to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand. Now standing at Neville Stewart’s Oaklands Stud in Queensland, Power won the Gr1 National Stakes in Ireland at two, before claiming the Gr1 Irish Guineas as a 3YO. Champion First and Second Crop Sire in New Zealand, during the 2020-21 NZ racing season he has been represented by seven individual stakes-performers.
