  • Kooringal Manager Delighted by New Sires

    Friday, 18th June 2021

Ahead of what should be an exciting new chapter for Wagga’s Kooringal Stud following its acquisition of two new stallions for the 2021 breeding season (see above), stud manager Angus Lamont explained what lay behind the respected farm’s selection process. “We’ve been on the look-out for a speed horse and one who is a spitting image of his champion sire Snitzel seemed to fit the bill nicely. He [Sandbar] really complements our roster, giving breeders access to some of the world’s best sirelines, diverse types and differing credentials.” Lamont noted, “Sandbar had fantastic form around some of the best horses of his generation. He’s a lovely athletic type and a three quarter-brother to the Golden Slipper winning, Champion 2YO Farnan - we are thrilled to have been able to secure him!” Lamont is equally enamoured by Frankel’s globe-trotting Last Kingdom, pointing out, “He was a very handy 2 and 3YO in Europe and then was purchased for big money to race in Hong Kong. Frankel is a superstar and doing an incredible job in Australia, with 35 starters to date for 7 stakes winners at an amazing 20 per cent stakes winners/runners including multiple Group 1 winner Hungry Heart, Gr1 JJ Atkins winner Converge and winner of the Group 1 Metropolitan, Mirage Dancer.” Sandbar and Last Kingdom will accompany dual Group 1 winner Prized Icon (More Than Ready) and emerging sire The Brothers War (War Front) at Kooringal this year.
