  • Clerk of The Course Leads in a Winner

    Thursday, 17th June 2021

WA’s Jade Tangaroa, usually known as the clerk of the course in Perth, instead took on a different role of being a trainer at the Belmont on Wednesday. She saddled up underdog Choose Freedom in the Schweppes Handicap (2100m) who ended up upstaging all his fancier rivals. Tangaroa posted her big first city win after going five years without her training license. “It felt great and a lot different,” Tangaroa told rwwa.com. “I only didn’t work today (Wednesday) because this horse is actually quite naughty. There hasn’t been a lot of races to suit him, but obviously today it did suit him.” Choose Freedoms started at $84 after his last defeat at Pinjarra (over 1600m), but after a quality ride from Ryan Hill he was able to defeat Savvy Dan by a head. “Ryan’s been saying for a long time we need to take the visors off him and put him up over 2100m,” Tangaroa said. “Since I’ve had Ryan as my main stable jockey the horses have been going better. He works incredibly hard and never complains. We are getting good results.”
