  • Embarrassment of Choice for Anamoe

    Tuesday, 15th June 2021

Despite facing a late charge for Black Type 2YO Premiership honours by the weekend’s Gr1 JJ Atkins winner Converge (Frankel), Godolphin’s Anamoe (Street Boss) still holds a 13-point buffer, the equivalent of a Group 1 victory as the season slides towards its end. With Ingratiating (Frosted), Arcaded (Street Boss) and Cloudy (Frosted) also likely to finish in the Top 15 Black Type juveniles, Godolphin has a strong hand moving forward, but none more so than Anamoe who looks to have the world at his equine hooves. Over the weekend, racingnsw.com.au revealed that trainer James Cummings is eyeing off options that include the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) and The Everest (1200m) for the colt. While the hugely lucrative sprint might not, at first glance, appear ideal for Anamoe, the extreme speed expected to unfold in the $15 million sprint could prove perfect for the get-back sprinter who would get a strong tow into the final 300 metres. The Caulfield Guineas (1600m) must also be enticing – he’s proven the Melbourne way of going – however there may be a slight question mark about the Cox Plate journey if the stable is leaning that way. From a family that has equal part Group 1 sprinters and distance horses, it’s possible that Anamoe’s sire might throw up some doubts about his ability to handle a helter-skelter 2040m as a young 3YO. Street Boss has had another strong black-type season with 13 individuals that have either won or placed at stakes level. The “but” is that, with the exception of Ripper Rita who placed in the Gr1 Australasian Oaks (2000m), each of the others has performed to a maximum of 1400m in stakes races. Either way, it’s a great problem for Godolphin to have.
