  • Guineas Heroine Targets Tatt's Tiara

    Wednesday, 9th June 2021

The darling of the spring with a stunning win in the Gr1 One Thousand Guineas (1600m) before a narrow second in the Gr1 Empire Rose Stakes, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr trained Odeum (Written Tycoon-Movie, by Red Ransom) has had a somewhat disappointing campaign to date but is looking to get it back on track in this Saturday's Gr2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm before heading to the Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) on June 26. Last seen second last in the Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes behind Nettoyer (Sebring) after missing the start, the filly has since proven she is right on track for her next up assignment with a 4-length barrier trial win at the Gold Coast. With regular jockey Michael Walker on the sidelines due to breaking his leg in a recent race fall, the coveted mount has gone to James McDonald, who has been enjoying a fantastic carnival with elite wins in the Queensland Derby aboard Kukeracha (Night Of Thunder) and Zaaki (Leroidiesanimaux) in the Doomben Cup. While she is a class filly on her day, co-trainer Mick Price feels that she could be vulnerable this week, but improvement is expected heading into her Group 1 assignment. "Odeum trialled brilliantly on the Gold Coast on Monday and had a big blow afterwards, so I think race fitness will be against her this Saturday, but she will go from the Dane Ripper to the Tatt's Tiara in another two weeks," revealed Price.
