  • Late Summer Return for Champion 2YO Vequist

    Friday, 28th May 2021

In US racing news, trainer Butch Reid Jnr has intimated that star juvenile filly Vequist (Nyquist-Vero Amore, by Mineshaft) is likely to have a late summer and autumn campaign, with a primary goal of the $1 million Cotillian Stakes at Parx Racing. "She's been training lightly down at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland, and she'll be coming back to my barn at Parx in the next 10 days," Reid revealed to bloodhorse.com. "We're looking forward to a fall campaign with her and have our eye on the Cotillion. I could see us possibly getting her a start at the end of Saratoga. We're excited to get her back in action." Vequist won at her second time of asking last September with an almost 10-length maiden triumph in the Gr1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga Racecourse. After then finishing second behind Dayoutoftheoffice (Into Mischief) in the Gr1 Frizette Stakes at Belmont Park in October, Vequist turned that result around when beating her rival by a few lengths in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland in November. Her seasonal debut in February was most disappointing, with the Nyquist filly beaten 26-lengths at Gulfstream Park in the Gr2 Davona Dale Stakes.
