  • Kingsford-Smith Pits Locals Against Invaders

    Thursday, 27th May 2021

Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan believes Jonker (Spirit of Boom-Hearts and Arrows, by Kempinsky) has the ideal barrier (4) to keep Saturday's Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup at home, reports racingqueensland.com.au. "I'm really happy with Jonker and he's in great order and will be on the speed in this race," Gollan said. "His Galaxy run was very good but he had a minor setback after that which made him miss the Doomben 10,000. He's stepping out of his 1200 metre comfort zone in this, and I suppose Eagle Farm is a bit of a worry, but he'll run well." A win by Jonker would add to the fine record Eureka Stud's young stallion Spirit of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) is enjoying during the Brisbane Carnival. Outback Barbie won the Listed Bright Shadow (1200m) on 15 May to back up the eye-popping victory by Prince of Boom on the same card at Doomben. That followed a lucrative triumph by Simply Fly in March's $500,000 QTIS Jewel 3YO. Jonker last tasted black type success in his home town when capturing last November's Listed Keith Noud Quality (1200m). He's a $15 chance.
