  • Vanna Girl Aims to Keep Hollindale in Qld

    Thursday, 6th May 2021

Only one Queensland trainer has won the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes since its inception in 1989, but trainer Toby Edmonds believes Vanna Girl (Husson-Logan's Choice, by Redoute's Choice) can break that drought on Saturday at the Gold Coast, reports racingqueensland.com.au. "I don't believe in races being hoodoos or anything like that," Edmonds said. "It's just that we haven't had horses good enough to win it yet." The only Queensland trained winner of the race was Fulmonti (Montjeu-Grosvenor's Pride, by Grosvenor) in 2009, trained by Chris Jordan. Vanna Girl hasn't raced since her seventh to Nettoyer (Sebring-Cleanup, by Dehere) in the Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes in mid-April, but has a solid record of eight wins from 17 starts including the 2020 Gr2 BRC The Roses. "I'd much prefer her to be in a handicap race but it is what it is," Edmonds said. "Her run in the Queen Of The Turf was quite good and she wasn't beaten far. She's going super and the home track will be an advantage." If she runs well, she will be aimed at the Doomben Cup. Vanna Girl was a $40,000 purchase at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Vinery Stud draft and now has earnings of nearly $500,000.
