  • Jack's Derby Quest to Continue in SA

    Tuesday, 13th April 2021

Connections of last weekend's Gr1 ATC Derby 2400m) winner Explosive Jack (Jakkalberry-Extra Explosive, by Ekraar) are looking at sending the 3YO south to the South Australian Derby, reports racing.com. "He's been in work for a long, long time and he's been everywhere – he's been to Goulburn, he's been to Tassie and now up in Sydney," co-trainer David Eustace said. "He's a bit of a sleeper as a horse, he's taken a lot of education and I think he's only just starting to work it out - even the improvement between the Bendigo run and the win yesterday was huge. He's racing very well and there are two more Derbies to go – Adelaide is in a month and Queensland is a month after that. We'll see how he comes through the run, he went to the beach this morning but he's a very sound horse and that's the plan at this stage." Explosive Jack has won four of his seven starts including the Listed Tasmanian Derby. He was a $100,000 purchase from the draft of Novara Park at the New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale, and is a son of Listed winner Extra Explosive, who is out of a stakes-placed sister to NZ sprinter The Red Express (Exploding Prospect-Tina's Spirit, by Beau Ghost).
