  • French Gr1 Winner Chasing First Australian Win

    Wednesday, 31st March 2021

Now in the care of his third trainer in Australia, Gr1 French 2000 Guineas winner Olmedo (Declaration of War-Super Pie, by Pivotal) is on one 27 nominations for Saturday's Gr3 Doncaster Prelude (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens. Having his first Australian start just over 12 months ago for trainer Kacy Fogden, the then 5YO was retired to stud to stand at Aquis Queensland, before a change in program saw the stallion head back into work and the stable of Chris Waller. With two unsuccessful Spring runs, Olmedo was sent for a spell and was seen back at the trials in March under the care of Annabel Neasham, trainer of last Saturday's Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner Mo'unga (Savabeel). Recording two pleasing trial efforts, the 6YO will look to kick off his Autumn campaign on Saturday with the hope of gaining some further black type to aid in his transition back into the stallion barn possibly for the commencement of the upcoming stallion season. Nominated for the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap (1600m) on April 10 and the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth (2000m) on April 17, Olmedo's previous French form saw him successful from 1500m to 2000m, so if Neasham can get him back into that type of form, he should prove competitive this time in.
