  • Into Mischief Star Colt to Miss Triple Crown

    Tuesday, 23rd March 2021

One of the most exciting 3YOs in training in the US will miss this year’s Triple Crown after leaving the training track with an injury. According to bloodhorse.com, well-named colt Life Is Good (Into Mischief-Beach Walk, by Distorted Humor) sustained a minor “hind-end” injury during a work-out at Santa Anita and has been sent to famed Root and Riddle Equine Hospital in Kentucky for assessment before recuperating at WinStar Farm. Along with China Horse Club, WinStar Farm owns Life Is Good who is a son of Spendthrift Farm’s multiple champion sire Into Mischief (Harlan’s Holiday-Leslie’s Lady, by Tricky Creek). The colt remains undefeated from his first three starts, winning the Gr3 Sham Stakes (8 furlongs) and Gr2 San Felipe Stakes (8.5 furlongs) by a commanding 8-lengths for trainer Bob Baffert. The victory saw Life Is Good promoted to the top of markets for the Gr1 Santa Anita Derby, part of his lead-up to the Gr1 Kentucky Derby and beyond. Baffert, while clearly disappointed, was philosophical about the situation around the 3YO already being hailed the Kentucky Derby winner in some quarters, saying, "There is always a possibility [of something happening] every day we go to work, but he's going to be fine. It's disappointing because he's such an exciting horse."
