  • Long-Range Cup Plan Comes to Fruition

    Tuesday, 9th March 2021

A 12-month plan, hatched immediately after Good Idea (So You Think-Faint Perfume, by Shamardal) had finished runner-up in the Gr2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) in 2020, came to fruition when the 6YO gelding scored a convincing victory in the $302,250 TAB Adelaide Cup at Morphettville yesterday. As was the case last year, the Phillip Stokes-trained stayer was ridden by Ben Johnson who revealed post-race: “Phillip... said we’ll come back next year and go one better – he was spot-on. I saw the horse trialling late last year. I keep in touch with Phillip and... he kept me up to date.” From barrier one, Thompson had Good Idea – an $18 shot with the TAB – in a perfect spot throughout the run, and the son of So You Think (High Chaparral) had the race in his keeping inside the final 100m, before a sell-out crowd of 5500. Eperdument (Americain), trained at Strathalbyn by Shane Oxlade and ridden by local hoop Kayla Crowther, ran out of her skin to finish second at big odds, while well-backed Victorian visitor Long Arm (Rock of Gibraltar) finished third after being stone last for much of the trip. Hot favourite and Lord Reims Stakes winner Tralee Rose (Tavistock) was given a perfect ride by jockey Jason Holder, but failed to run on in the straight and finished fourth.
