  • Still A Star Ready for Vamos Return

    Wednesday, 24th February 2021

The Gr3 Vamos Stakes (1400m) in Launceston late this afternoon will feature the first run of Still A Star (Toronado-Lita, by Casino Prince) since the 4YO mare won the Listed Tasmanian Oaks a year ago, reports tasracing.com.au. "She felt great this morning," said trackwork rider Patrick Dargan. "She's a fairly feisty mare out on the track. She's bouncing out of the ground, wanting to run, and had a nice trial last week and pulled up a treat. She's a lovely little horse." Still A Star stormed into the $5 million All-Star Mile field courtesy of receiving almost 10,000 votes in Racing Victoria's popularity-based entry system, and all eyes will be on her tonight. After winning the Tasmanian Oaks, Still A Star suffered a lung infection and that's the reason for her year away from the races. She has had four barrier trials to get her fit for tonight. In total, Still A Star has won seven of her twelve starts, and placed second in the other five starts for earnings over $400,000. She was sold by Alva Stud at the 2018 Magic Millions Tasmania Yearling Sale for only $13,000 to Monica Ryan. The Vamos Stakes is the third of a black-type triple at the Launceston track and will be preceded by the Listed Mowbray Stakes (1600m) and the Gr3 Launceston Cup (2400m) – see fields and Unibet markets below.
