  • Away Game Targets Light Fingers Stakes

    Friday, 12th February 2021

Back to her preferred distance of 1200m, the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Away Game (Snitzel) appears the one to beat in Saturday's Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes at Royal Randwick. Having previously started at the track twice in the past for wins in the Gr3 Widden Stakes and the Gr2 Percy Sykes Stakes, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner of her juvenile year was a last start third, beaten 2.5-lengths by the males Aim and Amish Boy in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas when stepping up to the 1400m for the first time; it was a trip that might just have seen her out, especially second up from a long break. Arguably the best filly of her generation at two, Away Game has failed to win in her only two starts at three, but punter support currently sees her as the favourite for the $200,000 race and while she takes on the likes of Jamie Richards' G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Kahma Lass (Darci Brahma) and Chris Waller's Gr2-winning, Gr1-placed Frankel filly Hungry Heart, jockey Hugh Bowman should be able to have his filly in a beautiful position from barrier six. From there he can present her as the field heads into the long Randwick straight, where the Mill Park bred and Magic Millions sold filly can highlight her ability.
