  • Sunshine Coast Cup Barriers No Issue for Gollan

    Friday, 29th January 2021

Trainer Tony Gollan has two runners in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup over 1400m on Saturday with both drawing unfavourable barriers, reports racingqueensland.com.au. Macewen (Rothesay-Gogoreilly, by O'Reilly) drew barrier 12, while Tokoriki Lad (Falvelon-Dantibe's Treasure, by Dantibes) drew 14. "There's not much between them and I actually preferred Macewen over Tokoriki Lad in the Magic Millions race," Gollan said. "But Macewen didn't have any luck and was caught three wide with no cover while Tokoriki Lad ran a great race in the Magic Millions. If he had drawn better I think he would have tested the winner. I think the tempo on Saturday will play a big part and the barriers hopefully won't be too much of a problem as they both will be in the second half of the field." Gollan currently leads the Brisbane trainers' with 56 wins - 17 wins clear of Toby and Trent Edmonds – and a win would make it eight premiership titles for the trainer. In total, his stable have won 95 races in Queensland this season.
