Yarran Thoroughbreds

Yarran Thoroughbreds Overview

Lot 574 is closely related to Gr2 winner Petrology (pic: Mark Gatt)

Helmed by highly experienced new manager, John Doherty, whose resume includes 16 years with Coolmore Ireland, 8 years with East Stud and Paca Paca Farm in Japan and most recently 8 years with Godolphin Victoria, Yarran Farm is a boutique 600 acre property with Goulburn River frontage and lofty ambitions. It is this knowledge and professionalism which underpins not only everything that happens on the farm but everything that goes into preparing a Yarran yearling for the sale ring.

So it is with excitement that Yarran Farm brings a draft of 4 colts and 9 fillies to Oaklands Junction.

In terms of established stallion power, Lot 656 is a good place to start. This colt is by Gr1 winner D'Argento's sire and dual Gr1 Cox Plate winner in So You Think from stakes-placed Anabaa mare Le Societe. As you do when you see Zabeel as the broodmare sire of any yearling, you also pull out your highlighter when you note Anabaa as the broodmare sire: 188 stakes horses, 98 stakes-winners and 41 Group-winners for $141 million-plus in earnings is the reason why. Names like Gr1 winners Buffering, dual Arc winner Treve, Dissident, Hartnell and English.

There's also yearlings by top drawer sires such as Foxwedge (Lot 713), a filly from Choisir mare Prefer and the family of Gr1 Blue Diamond winner Mahaasin, a lovely filly by Gr1-producing sire Magnus (Lot 574) from a three-quarter-sister to Gr1 Futurity Stakes winner Aqua D'Amore and half-sister to Gr2 winner Petrology and a Magnus colt (Lot 761) from a half-sister to Gr2 Gilgai Stakes runner-up We've Got This.

Other leading sires represented include Street Boss (Lot 163) and a colt from another speedy, 4-time winning Choisir mare in Embark (from the outstanding Swettenham Stud family of Captiva and Adagietto); Toronado and his filly (Lot 653) from Gr2 Adelaide Cup winning mare Lacey Underall (2 winners already); Sizzling (Lot 556) with a chestnut filly from Snippetson mare Bendaree, a half-sister to Gr3 winner Say Magic and the family of Gr1 Sydney Cup winner Mahtoum; a colt by promising young sire (oldest 3YOs) in Exceed And Excel's Kuroshio (Lot 717) from Rainbow Quest mare Rainbow Arch (5 individual winners) & 13 lots later the Denman filly from Rubyraja, a half-sister to stake- placed Confusion and El Diablo, and dam of 3 winners from 3 runners to date.

A number of the Yarran Farm draft is represented by an array of exciting sires with their eldest being yearlings. These include Lot 528, the filly by another exciting son of Exceed And Excel in Headwater from Wings of Prey, a half-sister to HK stakes performer Jun Gong; Lot 595, the filly by 4-time UK Gr1 winning sire Night of Thunder (by Dubawi) from Peintre Celebre mare Ecrivain (2 winners) and the family of US Gr1-winning filly Able Money and another filly by Night of Thunder (Lot 648) from High Chaparral mare Joylean (first foal), and the page of the precocious stakes-winning pair Livelihood and Living Spirit.

Rounding out the draft is a filly by Gr1 George Ryder Stakes winner and Gr1 Tokyo Yasuda Kinen winner Real Impact (Lot 572) from Danehill Dancer mare Cassini Contest. No more needs to be said than this filly is from the family of outstanding Hong Kong Stayer and Horse of the Year Indigenous.
