Oakford Thoroughbred Farm

Oakford Thoroughbred Farm Overview

Lot 512 shares a pedigree page with Gr1 winner Shootoff (pic: Steve Hart)

You simply don't have such a storied 20 year history and garner the respect of the industry without sustained professionalism and a results driven ethos. That's exactly why Oakford Thoroughbred Farm, the picturesque, boutique operation nestled in a fertile 800 acre valley near Victoria's historic Maldon township is a must inspection for all serious buyers at the upcoming Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

In terms of commerciality, the obvious place to start is with Lot 192, the gorgeous chestnut filly by leading 2YO sire Written Tycoon (sire of both Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Capitalist as well as Gr1 Blue Diamond winner Written By in recent years). Written Tycoon is seriously top drawer in any discussion of 2YO power. He currently boasts a very high 432 winners from 580 runners (74%) with 48 stakes horses, 27 stakes-winners and 14 Group winners for over $57 million in progeny earnings. And they also run on. In fact, despite being a dominant force with his 2YOs, he has 12 stakes winners when 3YO and 13 stakes winners at 4. This particular filly is from Fraschetti, a twice winner-producing daughter of Testa Rosa and half-sister to Gr2 SAJC Breeders' Stakes winner Berberia. It's a proven running family also featuring names close-up such as Gr1 runner-up Chattanooga, Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Real Stolle and Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes winner Ascorbic. On pedigree, this filly promises to have precocity at 2 and then extend in distance to maybe a mile at 3 and beyond. Obviously also definitely has serious residual appeal.

The actual first lot in the Oakford Thoroughbred draft is 144. This athletic grey colt is by Gr1 Two Thousand Guineas Winner Dawn Approach from Shamardal mare Distant Dreams. Although his eldest are only Southern Hemisphere 3YOs, Dawn Approach is really starting to make an impact as a sire to watch on the world stage. He already has 64 individual winners and 17 stakes horses with his current headliner being Gr2 Leopardstown Champion Juvenile winning Irish talent Madhmoon. Oakford's Dawn Approach yearling is the first foal of a 7-time winning mare and half-sister to Listed winner Deja Blue. It's a stakes-packed family with names like Gr3 winning French colt Time Prisoner, Gr2 Cherry Hinton (UK) runner-up Pearl Grey and Listed US winner Zennor all on the page.

The final lot in this exciting draft is 512. He's the colt by Medaglia d'Oro's son Nostradamus from Zabeel mare Tylden Lady. The fact that he's from a Zabeel mare should automatically prick the ears of any serious buyer. And the dam has already produced the Melbourne Listed winner Le Remas as well as 2 other individual winners. It's a diverse family that has the capability of delivering a big name. A daughter of 2nd Dam Intrim produced Gr1 Queensland Derby winner Shootoff in recent years.
