Kia Ora

Kia Ora Overview

Lot 156 is closely related to 3YO Gr1 winner Anacheeva (pic: Mark Gatt)

To use a wine analogy, buying a Kia Ora Stud yearling is like savouring a a shiraz from 100 plus year old vines planted in premium soil with perfect climatic conditions. Robust, beyond interesting and typically rare.

The 2019 Easter Draft proudly represents the label. 6 hand picked yearlings. A mixture of 3 colts and 3 fillies.

Lot 39 is the first offering. A powerful colt by dual Champion Australian Sire and speed production machine Snitzel from US Gr2 Keeneland Beaumont Stakes winning Daaher mare GYPSY ROBIN. This colt is a full brother to the Hayes / Dabernig trained Caravan (a filly currently spelling but with tremendous upside) from a young mare who's a half-sister to stakes winning US filly TIGER CAT LILLY. It's a prolific black type family boasting Gr1 class like Belmont Man o' War winner INFLUENT.

Just under 100 lots later (137) catalogues will be waving for the Exceed and Excel filly from More Than Ready mare MORE THAN REAL. By another Champion Australian Sire, this filly is the half-sister to 3 winners, one being stakes winning sprinter MISS DEBUTANTE. It's black type all the way down the page. The dam won the Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The second dam MISS SEFFENS is a multi stakes winner who finished 4th in the Kentucky Oaks.

Pedigrees don't come much better than Lot 156. This filly is by twice Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock from Joint Top NZ Filly and Gr1 Sires winner O'MARILYN. This is only her second foal but the residual is set in stone with her being a half-sister to Champion 3YO and Australian Derby winner HEADTURNER, Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner ANACHEEVA and Gr2 STC Premiere Stakes winner KRONER. Plus second dam Monroe Magic just happens to be by super broodmare sire Zabeel, which always pricks the ears from a buying perspective.

The standard is certainly maintained with Lot 249, another filly by exceptional 2YO sire Exceed and Excel from Bel Esprit mare SE SAUVER. With one-from-one in the winners column and being a half-sister to Gr1 Australian Derby winner ESCADO, this girl promises early precocity with middle distance upside into her subsequent preps.

The penultimate Kia Ora Stud Easter offering is perhaps their premium of a premium batch. Lot 341 is the All Too Hard colt from a truly exceptional and prodigious family. He's from Intikhab mare Zarinia. Her broodmare CV reads better than most. Champion South African 3YO Filly and Middle Distance Horse of The Year IGUGU, Gr3 Craven Plate winner HONORIUS, stakes winning South African filly NGAGA and Gr3 placed Sydney filly Sweet Fire. Most recently, another of Zarina's daughters in Gayika has produced Gr2 Stan Fox winning 3/4 brother TARKA

Lot 429 concludes this outstanding draft. And what a way to finish! The So You Think colt from dual Gr1 winning NZ mare DORABELLA. Not only is she a half-sister to stakes winning Singaporean gelding CRUSOE but has already produced Gr3 Gloaming placed Coral Coast. This is also the family of Gr1 NZ One Thousand Guineas winner MEDIA SENSATION.

The full Kia Ora Stud draft will be on display at Barn I Stables 38-43.
