Corumbene Stud

Corumbene Stud Overview

Synonymous with breeding elite athletes, George Altomonte’s Dunedoo-based Corumbene Stud has no peer in recent years when it comes to the Gr1 Golden Slipper. No farm in the last eleven years has produced more winners of the world’s richest two-year-old contest than Corumbene Stud.

Successful in 2008, leading young sire Sebring was bred and sold at the Magic Millions yearling sale to Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds, while a few years later in 2013, Altomonte’s home-bred Overreach was simply breathtaking in her victory, racing in the Corumbene Stud’s Orange, Brown Spots, White Sleeves And Cap silks.

With a mix of proven stallions as well as first and second crop sires looking to make their mark in the sale ring, Corumbene Stud’s 2019 Magic Millions yearling sale draft of 14 yearlings could well contain the 2020 Golden Slipper winner.

Kicking off the draft of is Lot 294, the More Than Ready filly out of a three-quarter-sister to Group 1 winner Alverta, while another by the same Vinery Stud-based sire is Lot 672, a filly out of the Tale Of The Cat mare Icedginger, the dam of Corumbene Stud’s Listed winner Samantha, from the family of Gr1 Blue Diamond winner True Jewels, also a product of the Dunedoo nursery.

Bred and raced by the farm, the first crop of Gr3 performer Outreach, the full brother to Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Overreach create plenty of interest. Retired to stud after just one run, the Exceed And Excel colt was injured when running eventual Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver to three-parts of a length.

Corumbene will offer three in their draft; Lot 890, a filly out of the Street Sense mare Zarifa, a half-sister to dual Gr3 winner Nayeli from the family of Gr1 winner Kapchat, Lot 976, a bay filly from the Gr1 family of Pour Moi and Lammtarra, as well as Lot 1019, a filly out of a half-sister to Listed winner Mr Unforgettable, from the family of Gr3 winner Tallow and her stakes-winning juvenile son Sandbar.

Second crop sires Rubick, Dissident, Shooting To Win and Brazen Beau make up a good portion of the draft with Lot 335, a bay filly by Encosta de Lago’s Gr2-winning speedster Rubick, out of a half-sister to the G2 Light Fingers Stakes winner Bennetta, sure to appeal.

A pair of Dissident yearlings, Lot 356, a colt from the international Gr1 family of Sharaya, Shawanda, Shareta and Encke as well as Lot 837, a filly out of the Mossman mare Mossarama, from the family of Gr1 winners Duporth and Excites, and the Group 2 winners Staging and Tickets, are great examples of the quality that the Horse of the Year, and multiple Gr1 winner Dissident is producing.

Some further highlights in the draft include Lot 373, a Not A Single Doubt filly from the family of Gr1 winners Inspiration, Wandjina and Complacent, while Lot 401 is a colt by Champion Sire Exceed And Excel out of the Group 2 winner Bennetta, and Lot 505 is a So You Think filly from the family of Gr1 Golden Rose winner Exosphere.
