  • Heartfelt Runner for Alexander Stable in NZ

    Friday, 17th September 2021

The opening day of the Hawkes Bay spring carnival, Daffodil Day, will raise funds for the Cancer Society and holds special meaning for trainers Simon and Katrina Alexander, reports racingnews.co.nz. The Remember Jooky Mile is sponsored by the Alexanders in memory of their son who died of melanoma at age 22 in 2019, and this year, they have Alchemia (Per Incanto-Amonmarie, by O'Reilly) in the race. "Yes, it would mean a lot to win our race," Katrina Alexander said. "We had hoped to have the usual 30 to 40 people join us but with level 2 lockdown conditions in place we've had to put a lid on things. We're thankful that we can still stage the race with a smaller group on hand and we have a plan in place to keep the sponsorship going." Alchemia is a maiden with three starts under her belt including a Listed placing as a 2YO. The Alexanders also have Farrenc (Dalghar-Musical Magic, by Mozart) in the Gr3 Hawkes Bay Breeders Gold Trail Stakes, who ran third behind Imperatriz (I Am Invincible-Berimbau, by Shamardal) and I Wish I Win (Savabeel-Make a Wish, by Pins) in the Gr3 Northland Breeders' Stakes last start.
