The International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA) has announced that Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, CEO of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, has been elected its new Chairman, effective October 2021. He will replace long-standing outgoing chairman Louis Romanet. The IFHA seeks to promote all facets of the worldwide sport of thoroughbred racing, including in relation to the welfare of the equine and human athlete, and to protect and grow racing’s global social and economic significance. In response to Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges’ new role at the IFHA, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Mr Philip Chen said, “The appointment of a Hong Kong representative to this leadership position underscores the enormous respect Winfried commands in world racing and also the very significant achievements of Hong Kong racing on the world stage.” Engelbrecht-Bresges noted, “There is nobody who can replicate the remarkable and sustained contribution to the IFHA which Louis has achieved.” Engelbrecht-Bresges has been at the helm of The Hong Kong Jockey Club since 2007. Under his leadership the Club has become one of the world’s leading racing organisations, with international brand recognition.
