  • Thrilling French Gr1 for Olympic Glory

    Monday, 23rd August 2021

Former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Olympic Glory (Choisir-Acideanthera, by Alzao) added a second Group 1 winner in France over the weekend when Grand Glory (Olympic Glory-Madonna Lily, by Daylami) gave trainer Gianluca Bietolini his biggest career win in the Gr1 Prix Jean Romanet, reports bloodhorse.com. "She was really extraordinary there because she had to really pick up just to get to the leader, and then there was a moment when I wondered if she could go past. But she was so courageous and Cristian gave her a brilliant ride," Bietolini enthused. "It's a dream to win a race like this and especially with this mare. She really deserved it and I'm still pinching myself, I can't believe it." Paying 33-1, Grand Glory downed the 2020 winner Audarya (Wootton Bassett-Green Bananas, by Green Tune) who ran bravely for second. Also in France, the Gr1 Prix Morny for 2YOs was won by Perfect Power (Ardad-Sagely, by Frozen Power) for trainer Richard Fahey who told racingpost.com, "He's a laid-back character, but I always thought he was pretty smart.” The colt will now be set for the Gr1 Middle Park Stakes.
