  • Gold Trip an Exciting Cox Plate Prospect

    Wednesday, 18th August 2021

Having officially joined the Maher and Eustace team, international galloper Gold Trip (Outstrip-Sarvana, by Dubai Destination) is a serious opportunity to line up in this year's Gr1 Cox Plate (2040m). After meticulous checks and scans, the vets have given the all-clear to sell the French-bred 5YO, who was previously trained by Fabrice Chappet. ”The sale has been finalised. Gold Trip is going to move from France to Harry and James Eustace's yard in Newmarket," co-trainer Ciaron Maher told RSN listeners on Tuesday morning. "It's pretty exciting, he looks the right horse. He has a very similar profile to [last year’s Cox Plate stable winner] Sir Dragonet. He's fit and well and will be targeted towards the Cox Plate," Maher said. According to punters.com.au, the bay colt has only won one of his 10 career starts to date, but he has placed at Group 1 level on three occasions, and finished a close fourth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2400m) - widely regarded as the world's best weight-for-age race. Gold Trip could follow a similar path this spring to Sir Dragonet (Galileo) who joined Maher and Eustace after two wins from nine international starts before tackling the Cox Plate first-up which he won. The spring portents are obviously very good for Gold Trip.
