  • Maher Puts Moir Rivals on Notice

    Tuesday, 17th August 2021

If a week is a long time in politics, a half-year in racing is a lifetime. That’s how long ago the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) was staged at Caulfield. Amongst the beaten brigade – like the Olympic sprints the also-rans are quickly forgotten – was a filly whose light burnt brighter than most but whose flame flickered in the biggest juvenile sprint of the year in Melbourne. Enthaar (Written Tycoon) started favourite. She’s back in work and, according to a punters.com.au interview with co-trainer Ciaron Maher, she might be a different proposition this time around. The 3YO has furnished during the ensuing 25 weeks even though Maher says she still has further growing to do. Enthaar burst onto the 2YO scene in Sydney with a performance in the Gr3 Gimcrack Stakes that left markets with no choice but to install her as early favourite for the Gr1 Golden Slipper. Raced by Emirates Park, the daughter of now Yulong-based stallion Written Tycoon is being set for a potential tilt at Moonee Valley’s Gr1 Moir Stakes towards the end of September, however Maher suggested he is likely to give her a pipe-opener before then: “We will see if she needs a run to get in there [the Moir] but I‘d imagine the 1000m would certainly suit her. She’s a fast filly.”
