Covert Debut for Written Tycoon Colt

Today's meeting at Pakenham will feature the debut outing for Covert (Written Tycoon-Too Discreet, by Henny Hughes) in Race 3, the Downsize with Lifestyle Maiden Plate over 1100m. Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Covert had a quiet trial over 800m on 9 August to prepare for this race. Withdrawn from the 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, the 3YO colt is out of a city-winning half-sister to Group 1 winner Maybe Discreet (Shamardal-Oh So Discreet, by Bluebird) and Group 3 winner Just Discreet (Exceed and Excel). The early favourite for the race is Awe (Hinchinbrook-Crystal Whip, by Lonhro) who was unplaced in his only start as a 2YO back in March in the Gr3 Pago Pago Stakes. Awe was an $850,000 yearling sold by Yarraman Park Stud at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sales. His dam, Crystal Whip, is a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Group-1 placed Crystal Dream (Stratum) from the family of Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily (Stratum).
