  • General Beau Sharp Ahead Of Vain Stakes

    Wednesday, 11th August 2021

A significant launching pad for Spring success, the Ellerton/Zahra stable will saddle up their smart colt General Beau (Brazen Beau-Phosphorescence, by Lonhro) in Saturday's Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) after the 3YO pleased connections in a soft jumpout at Flemington on Monday. A winner over 900m at his juvenile debut, the son of Darley's Brazen Beau went on to claim the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) and the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) defeating Anamoe (Street Boss) before finishing fifth in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes behind Artorius (Flying Artie). "He's come back a better product than what we saw in the autumn," co-trainer Zahra said to racing.com. "He's pretty full of himself at the moment, he had just a nice soft jumpout, running Saturday, so we didn't want to knock him around too much. But we were happy with the jumpout, there was a lot of improvement to come, we haven't squeezed him down a lot, so there is plenty in store for a long spring." With 17 nominations for the race including multiple Gr1-placed Ingratiating (Frosted) and the unbeaten Generation (Snitzel-Fontiton, by Turffontein), previous winners include Bivouac (Exceed And Excel), Russian Revolution (Snitzel), Sepoy (Elusive Quality) and Starspandledbanner (Choisir).
