  • Late Starting Maschino Daughter On a Roll

    Tuesday, 10th August 2021

Perth trainer Dan Morton appears to have a smart mare on his hands in the shape of 5YO Wilchino (Maschino-Wild Park, by Bletchely Park). Due to a severe knee injury which might have ended her career but for her owners’ patience, the late-starting mare has only been to the races seven times. Time heals all, it’s said, and with four city wins from her past five starts, she’s certainly making up for lost time. According to rwwa.net.au, Wilchino will remain in work for at least this new season, with Morton stating after her most recent victory, “She’s the real deal and that was very impressive. She’s fast and finished them off today.” Alwyn Park’s John Andrew bred and sold Wilchino for $55,000 at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions. She’s the final foal of Wild Park (Bletchley Park) and follows winners by Trade Fair (2), Blackfriars, Alfred Nobel and Patronize. Alwyn Park consigned all six to the Perth Magic Millions between 2012 and 2018 for a total return over $230,000. Wild Park’s older full-sister Kim Lisa was a Listed winner of the 2003 Helena Vale Cup defeating that year’s G1 Kingston Town Classic winner True Steel. Maschino (Encosta de Lago) stands at Alwyn Park in Serpentine for an unchanged service fee of $6,600 (inc GST) despite constantly improving stats this year. His winners to runners record is hovering above 62% and his stakes-performers to winners is an amazing 29%.
