One of the world’s most expensive yearlings in recent years has won on debut at Newmarket in England. Ridden by William Buick for trainer Charlie Appleby, Godolphin-owned 2YO colt Hafit (Dubawi-Cushion, by Galileo) was well-supported to score at his first time of asking when sent out over 7 furlongs. Soon leading his rivals, the blue-blooded juvenile slipped back to third before being clicked up with 400m to go. The most pleasing aspect of the half-length win was the tenacious finish on good ground. By Darley’s redoubtable stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium), Hafit is out of multiple Group-placed Cushion, a Galileo daughter of multiple Champion Attraction (Efisio) who claimed Group 1 wins in the English One Thousand Guineas, Irish One Thousand Guineas, Sun Chariot Stakes, Coronation Stakes and Matron Stakes. Whatever Hafit achieves at this stage of his career is a pure bonus ahead of what could be a very exciting 3YO season. The promising colt is a 2.1 million guineas (approximately A$4 million) graduate of the famous Tattersalls October Sale Book-1.
