  • Epic Anamoe vs Converge Clash Awaits

    Wednesday, 4th August 2021

Leading into the two biggest 3YO races of the spring, the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) and the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), there is a temptation to view the likely outcomes through the prism of last season’s juvenile majors. History shows however that, after the winter, many hitherto gangly teenagers emerge as men having departed as boys. Which is to say that it shouldn’t come as any surprise if a number of out-of-left-field aspirants put their hands up during September and October. Despite that, it’s difficult to look beyond Anamoe (Street Boss) and Converge (Frankel) – a status quo reflected by the respective elite race markets. Muddying the water somewhat is the spectre of The Everest. Given the pressure-cooker pace of the $15 million sprint, who’s to say any of Stay Inside (Extreme Choice), Anamoe, Converge or even Captivant (Capitalist), Profiteer (Capitalist) and Shaquero (Shalaa) wouldn’t be big threats, and thus unavailable for some 3YO-specific duties? Perhaps the eyes see what the eyes want to see, but the arrogant manner in which Anamoe and Converge finished off their respective seasons – they toyed with their rivals – suggests both are in for significant campaigns. If, and when, they lock horns, the final 200m of a stretch duel could be truly epic.
