  • Oblivion Becomes Winning Rupert's Twelfth

    Thursday, 29th July 2021

The march of the Newgate Farm first crop sires continued Monday when Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon) recorded his twelfth individual first crop winner via John Sprague's Oblivion (Winning Rupert-Mossbeat, by Mossman) who broke his maiden in impressive fashion as the race favourite at his fourth start. Having just his second run for his current trainer after finishing second the start prior, jockey Ashley Morgan jumped the gelding out quickly from the gates where he went to the lead and maintained that position throughout to score by more than two and a half lengths over 1000m at Taree. Originally sold for $280,000 to James Harron Bloodstock from the Magic Millions draft of Newgate Farm, the juvenile was recently sold via the Inglis Digital platform to his new trainer who parted ways with just $22,500, with that price now repaid in race winnings and bonuses. Currently sitting in third position on the Leading First Season Sire table for winners behind Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and Star Turn (Star Witness), Winning Rupert will stand for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) in the upcoming breeding season.
