  • Exciting Campaign Ahead for Stay Inside

    Wednesday, 28th July 2021

Sporting the silks of Newgate Farm and China Horse Club, this season's Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside (Extreme Choice-Nothin' Leica Storm, by Anabaa) stepped out in the first trial of the day at Rosehill on Tuesday. Taking on six other runners which included Chris Waller's multiple Gr1 winners Kolding (Ocean Park) and Veery Elleegant (Zed), the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Stay Inside jumped away well from the gates for Tommy Berry before working forward to settle in second position behind the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Riodini (Proisir) who rolled along in the lead. Travelling strongly on the home turn, Berry pulled the colt to the outside of the leader, where, without being asked for an effort extended impressively to take the lead and pull away for a length and a quarter win. While the rising 3YO does not yet have a slot for the upcoming The Everest, connections are confident that if he returns in the vein of form he went out in, then slot holders will come knocking. "We've just taken the view that if he's going well enough to win the race, he'll find a spot. If he wins another Group 1 1200-metre race against 3YOs such as the Coolmore (Stud Stakes), the needle might move a bit but the only way to get a big shift (in his value) is probably The Everest," stated co-trainer Michael Freedman.
