  • Racing Starved Brits Ready to Cram Goodwood

    Tuesday, 27th July 2021

Despite a bucketing of more than 30mm of rain in the region surrounding Goodwood over the weekend, ticket sales have been anything but damp with a potential sell-out crowd on the cards for the final day of its Glorious meeting, reports racingpost.com. Managing director Adam Waterworth has even badged that crowd numbers were on track to reach pre-Covid numbers. “Sales are going really well actually," enthused Waterworth. "It was a slower start than we'd normally expect, until a few weeks ago there was uncertainty around numbers that could attend. But since the government's statement sales have been so strong we've caught up. We're expecting it to feel like a normal festival." Some of the people power will certainly be lured by the potential of history-making performances by Stradivarius and Battaash, with Waterworth commenting, "I'm so excited to see the two going for their fifth win, which is unbelievable. Stradivarius goes for the record on Tuesday [Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes] and then we get to do it all again on the Friday." With heavy rain expected overnight, before drying conditions as the week progresses, Saturday's big final day may be the spectacle many are paying for. Below is a highlights package from last year.
