  • Promising Larkspur Run Resumes

    Wednesday, 14th July 2021

With a win and two second-placed efforts, including finishing behind the promising Group 2 winner O’President (Fastnet Rock), the James Cummings-trained filly Larkspur Run (Shamardal-Aspen, by Exceed And Excel) resumes from a break this Wednesday in the opening race of the Canterbury card, the Admire Mars At Arrowfield Handicap (1250m). With two recent trials under her belt, including a two and a half length victory over 900m, the juvenile filly should be ready to go first up with Rachel King in the saddle. Currently the race favourite ahead of the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Construct (I Am Invincible-Martindale Hall, by Lonhro) and the Hawkes Racing’s last start winner Almighty Rising (Flying Artie-Dawn Almighty, by Danehill), Larkspur Run is a prime example of the breeding opportunities which owner Godolphin have access to. Raced in Australia during her career, Exceed And Excel mare Aspen, who is a half-sister to Group 2 winner Ghisoni (Lonhro) was exported to the United Kingdom upon retirement, where she was covered by Shamardal, before being imported back into Australia in foal. The mare has since foaled two fillies by Lonhro and looks set to foal in the upcoming season to Royal Ascot hero Blue Point (Shamardal).
